How the Discseel® Procedure Treats Lower Back Pain

The core of the Discseel® Procedure is the injection of fibrin, an FDA-approved biologic material.

Fibrin acts as a sealant, closing the tears in damaged discs.

By sealing the disc tears, the procedure stops the leakage of disc material, which can irritate surrounding nerves and cause pain and sciatica.  It also promotes the body’s natural healing processes, as the sealed and stabilized disc tissues have the opportunity to heal and the natural anatomy of the disc is preserved.

The Discseel® Procedure focuses on repairing the disc itself, which is the source of many common back problems.  It has been used to successfully treat a wide range of conditions including:

  • Chronic lower back pain
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Annular tears
  • Herniated discs
  • Sciatica
  • Leaky Disc Syndrome

Benefits of the Discseel® Procedure

Minimally Invasive

Unlike traditional spine surgery, which usually involves large incisions, muscle dissection, and an extended recovery period; the Discseel Procedure is minimally invasive. It requires only small incisions, reducing the trauma to surrounding tissues and facilitating a quicker recovery.

Preserve Spine

Traditional spine surgeries may involve the removal of spinal structures or fusion of vertebrae, potentially altering the natural biomechanics of the spine. The Discseel Procedure aims to preserve the natural anatomy of the spine. It focuses on sealing and repairing disc tears without compromising the integrity of surrounding structures.

Annulogram Advantage

The Discseel Procedure incorporates an Annulogram™, a diagnostic test that identifies subtle disc tears not easily detected by traditional methods like MRI. This proactive approach allows for early intervention, addressing small tears before they progress to more severe disc herniations or degeneration. Traditional surgeries may not have this level of preemptive identification and treatment.

Use of Fibrin

The Discseel Procedure utilizes Fibrin, a biologic naturally created by the body, to seal and repair disc tears. Fibrin has a range of applications in the human body and is commonly used as a biological glue in a wide variety of surgical procedures. This targeted approach distinguishes the Discseel Procedure from invasive surgical methods.

Shorter Recovery

Patients undergoing the Discseel Procedure experience a significantly shorter recovery time compared to traditional spine surgery. Following the procedure, individuals can often resume activities within 24 hours, gradually increasing their level of activity. The recovery process minimizes downtime and helps patients return to their daily lives more swiftly.
